My name is Janell Marie and I’m a freelance writer from the Chicagoland (Gary, IN). After my career as an event planner was disrupted by the pandemic, I picked up a few gigs as a contractor in-between working to finish my bachelor’s degree. I expect to graduate in Spring 2023 with a B.A. in Communication & Media from the CUNY School of Professional Studies.
I like to write reflections and observations about life and love. Most of my writing has been self-published on my blog and Medium account, but for a few months I wrote copy for #HIREBLACK, an initiative on a mission to get 10,000 Black womxn hired, trained, or promoted. After years of working purely out of necessity, it felt good to blend two of my favorite things: writing and uplifting Black people.
Now that we’re out of the thick of COVID, I’m back to planning events, but my first love will always be writing. Good thing my job gives me stories to tell (and plenty to keep to myself 🤭). Hit me up any time. I’d love to share my words with you.
